We are in high summer mode at Sterling Mountain Farm. Our sugarhouse only needs a wee bit of sugarwood to be ready for the 2027 season. The blueberry bushes and apple trees are laden with fruit. The garden has gone into overdrive producing beautiful broccoli, beans and summer squash. The garlic is harvested and curing in the barn.
But as fruitful as the growing season is, something is missing. On July 5th, our lovely Sasha dog has passed on from a sarcoma cancer. I miss her presence immensely. She has walked hundreds of miles with me working in the woods, hanging out at the barn, sugarhouse, garden or wherever I am working. She so often was smiling and getting our Kelly dog to play. She truly was an angel in a dog’s body.
I hope for the world’s people that everyone can have a friend in any form like Sasha was to me. I hope her spirit still roams through the woods and watches over us. I love you so much Sasha.
